HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The family of Marquez Williams is still searching for answers a year after he was killed in a hit-and-run.

It’s been 12 months of no Marquez and no answers.

“We don’t know anything,” Domaneice Moore, Marquez’s cousin, said. “I mean, I don’t know what’s the holdup, what’s holding the detectives back or anything.”

Family and friends held a balloon release to honor his life and to plead for community members to help find the driver responsible for taking it.

“We need closure as a family,” Terrance Adkins, Marquez’s friend, said. “We need closure as a city. This should disturb everyone in the city that we have someone around stealing cars and murdering people.”

Marquez was killed in a hit-and-run while crossing Memorial Parkway near Mastin Lake Road on April 15, 2024.

Huntsville Police told News 19 the truck that hit Marquez was stolen and fled the scene immediately. Once it was located, police said the truck appeared as if it had been lit on fire. The owners of the truck were ruled out as suspects, and no arrests have been made in the case.

“One day justice will prevail,” Moore said. “You know what you did? You know that you took somebody away from a family. You took somebody’s child, somebody’s brother, somebody’s uncle, cousin, somebody’s significant other. And if you can live with it, then you’re just a terrible person. Just come forward, say something.”

While the family searches for justice, they also must navigate life without someone they loved so deeply.

“I know that you can’t sleep at night,” Adkins said. “I know that you are still dealing with everything that’s going on, and the only way that you will not be able to do that is to come forward and tell the truth.”

Huntsville Police said this is an active, ongoing investigation, and investigators are looking into every new piece of evidence they receive.
