Team Ikuzawa and Artist Chris Labrooy Launch Superhero-Themed Capsule in Tokyo

Team Ikuzawa and celebrated Scottish artist Chris Labrooy have joined forces for an exciting collaboration at the intersection of Japanese motorsport nostalgia and surreal digital art. Notably, the capsule collection is curated by two industry icons, Sarah Andelman (via JUST AN IDEA) and Motofumi “POGGY” Kogi.

The collection reimagines Team Ikuzawa as a superhero universe, drawing inspiration from an archival 1988 photo of a Team Ikuzawa motorcycle rider stranded at the Isle of Man TT — a moment Labrooy likened to an “alien landing.” With nods to 1980s Japanese racing and zipped-up superhero culture, the limited-edition capsule includes a red track jacket, art-adorned tees, collectible patches, sticker packs and a customisable in-store jacket service.

This pop-up also marks the first launch of Team Ikuzawa’s mainline collection in Japan, with exclusive pieces available throughout the event’s one-month run. Founded by Japanese racing legend Tetsu Ikuzawa, Team Ikuzawa has evolved under the creative direction of his daughter, Mai Ikuzawa, into a cultural force that blends racing heritage with contemporary design. Labrooy, known for his playful, otherworldly CGI art, who’s worked with brands like Porsche and Nike, now brings his signature surrealism to Team Ikuzawa.

The capsule collection is set to launch on April 17 at SELECT by BAYCREW’S in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo. For those who can’t make it to Japan, a global online release will follow on May 16. In the meantime, see the art in motion in the video below.
