Following A$AP Rocky’s appointment as Ray-Ban‘s first creative director in mid-February, the brand has produced the rapper’s debut line of sunglasses, dubbed “The Blacked Out” Collection. Reimagining three classic Ray-Ban silhouettes with bold design updates and ultra black lenses, Rocky’s debut release with the eyewear purveyor is a dynamic trio of timeless styles.

When taken in as a whole, the collection illustrates somewhat of a chronological evolution of Ray-Ban’s styles. The Mega Clubmaster is arguably the most vintage-looking, featuring gold-colored metal hardware on the bridge and the bottom halves of the frame. Next, Mega Wayfarer, the brand’s most iconic shape, evokes the styles from the mid-century era with its full acetate frame. Finally, the Mega Balorama is the most contemporary, appealing to the Y2k sensibilities of today and popular sports styles. Consistent are gold-plated details and an additional tattoo-style AWGE emblem, representing Rocky’s creative agency. Each purchase comes with a special case printed with an A$AP Rocky 1000-dollar bill design.

In February, Rocky shared, “I’ve always admired Ray-Ban’s ability to stay true to its roots while constantly evolving. I’m excited to be part of the strong heritage and develop the next chapter for an iconic brand like Ray-Ban,” in a statement. Rocky’s involvement in the brand is expected to extend beyond eyewear, with the creative director leading campaigns, and redesigning Ray-Ban stores while blending the realms of music, fashion and art.

The A$AP Rocky for Ray-Ban “Blacked Out” collection is available now at select EssilorLuxottica retail stores and at the Ray-Ban webstore for $266 USD per piece.
