(WKBN) – We now have police video showing an Ohio trooper’s initial encounter with a Michigan man, who investigators say stole a cruiser, crashed it, and was shot by troopers in Pennsylvania.
Video from the Ohio State Highway Patrol shows the trooper encountering the man, identified as Deshawn Leeth, on the side of the turnpike after Leeth crashed near the state line.
Leeth runs away but turns around and runs back towards the trooper. Body camera video shows the trooper attempting to use a stun gun on Leeth.
The stun gun appears to have little effect on Leeth, and a fight begins. The video shows punches being exchanged, and at one point, Leeth gets the trooper on the ground.
Leeth eventually takes off in the cruiser.
In the Dash cam video from the cruiser with Leeth driving, you can hear Leeth talking to himself for about 11 minutes before a dramatic crash in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania State Police have said an altercation ensued when troopers approached the vehicle, causing them to use deadly force.
