HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Orion Amphitheatre is hosting its third annual Pup Palooza, which will benefit The Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
This free pup-friendly festival features a shelter supply drive, a pet costume contest, live local music, food trucks, vendors and more. Over 100 people attended the event, with vendors lining the pathways.
Rochelle Sexton, the director of marketing and communication with GHHS, said all donated funds go to GHHS’s community programs, meaning the funds aren’t just for the shelter, but also for its neighbors who may have financial difficulty but don’t want to give up their pets.
Through this, GHHS can offer spay and neuter vouchers, the Kings Kirchen pet food pantry and also Monty’s Wellness Clinic, which is a monthly low-cost pet clinic for routine vaccines.
In 2024, the Pup Palooza raised nearly $5,000. GHHS is hopeful it will reach that same amount in 2025.
“In 2024, we spent around $20,000 on the community programs at the shelter, so that $5,000 is a quarter of the funds we have to raise each year,” Sexton said.
Currently, there are dogs that are available for adoption at the festival such as Soda, a two-month-old dog waiting for his forever family.
In addition to the adoptable pets, there is a supply drive for the shelter. In particular, GHHS is in need of cleaning supplies such as bleach and detergent.
“Everyone always wants to buy the fun things for the pets, but to keep our operating budget low, anything that the community can always donate in supplies is great,” Sexton said. “So disinfecting bleach, laundry detergent because our washing machine runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every single day.”
