Bargain hunters rave over new discount supermarket that’s been dubbed a Costco ‘dupe’

Shoppers have found their new favorite store.

“Koshco” is a California store touted as a “dupe” for Costco. Much like the beloved retail giant, this cut-price storefront boasts a similar color scheme of red, blue and white, and also sells a variety of items in bulk.

Koshco is entirely kosher and located in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood of Los Angeles, which has long boasted a large Jewish community.

The store offers fresh groceries and produce, as well as many other items from name brands such as Kellogg and Mary’s Gone Crackers.

“We’re proud to carry the full line of the best Gluten Free Crackers on the planet from @marysgonecrackers !! Thanks for stopping by!

,” they captioned their May 2024 Instagram post.

Costco typically stocks its own products under the Kirkland name, while Koshco stocks big-name brands.

Another difference between Koshco and Costco, is that the former doesn’t require a membership to shop there. It does, however, offer discounts and free local delivery.

Koshco also has a kosher deli located within the store and according to SFGate, the store’s bakery serves fresh goods including challah bread.

Koshco first started as an online local delivery service for kosher groceries during the pandemic in 2020. But, by 2022, the company opened their first brick-and-mortar store in Los Angeles.

Just like Costco, Koshco holds live demos and gives out samples as shoppers roam the store.

The Pico-Robertson neighborhood also houses the Museum of Tolerance and the Simon Wiesenthal Center and, according to the outlet, has the highest amount of synagogues in one area throughout the whole city.

There are many other kosher restaurants and delis in the area, but Koshco Wholesale’s stock of over 1,000 products sets themselves apart.

Another sweet social media shout-out saw one customer dubbing the store’s bread the “best challah in the entire city, for sure, maybe the entire country.”
