Can we get a little more commotion for the surprise Coachella cameo? Rock legend Brian May, who is the founding member and lead guitarist of Queen, came out on stage to perform “Bohemian Rhapsody” with Benson Boone – to what fans are saying was a rather underwhelming response.
The “Beautiful Things” singer, 22, introduced the iconic musician as he approached a guitar solo. “Brian May, everybody!” he yelled into the microphone to a too-quiet crowd on Friday, April 11 in Indio Calif.
Videos of the performance went viral on TikTok as commenters called out the unimpressed onlookers. “the crowd was not hype enough for that brian may appearance,” one person wrote with nearly 53,000 likes as of publish time.
Another added, “Why isn’t the audience freaking out over THEEE BRIAN MAY?!!?”
“The crowd did not pass the vibe check. He KILLED IT,” someone else commented.
Boone has often been compared to Queen frontman Freddie Mercury as he rocks similar colorful jumpsuits and that very specific mustache look while on stage. Still, he’s trying to forge his own path it seems.
“I don’t want to be the same as Harry Styles and the same as Freddie Mercury, and the same as Justin Bieber…It’s not me,” he told Rolling Stone in March. “I’m Benson Boone! I’m completely different.”
