There’s nothing like a mama with her baby. The relationship is so special! Just take a mama Blue Roan who was caught “chatting” with her baby after the filly was born. Their relationship is going to be so special, we can tell! These two have a lifetime of chats ahead of them.

The horses were captured sharing a sweet moment by their human Lexi Thyberg. The woman was so smitten to see the mama take to her baby. Those mothering instincts happen so fast!

Mama Jolene was taking such good care of her baby. You could tell the filly is in good hands! The clip shows the two nuzzling on some hay while mama cleans baby up. Then she starts “talking” to her bub with her sweet low nickers.

We don’t speak horse, especially not Blue Roan — but if we had to decipher what mom was saying, it was probably something like, “Hello, little one!” Welcome to the world.”

“She is such a good first time mom,” Thyberg praised in the video’s caption.

Jolene really is! In fact, the new mama had people in the comments section practically swooning with her kind words.

“No better sound in the world than a mare nickering to her newborn,” wrote one person.

“My favorite sound ever!! She sounds like a quiet Harley Davidson, too. Only better of course,” joked another commenter.

“My favorite thing in the world was when the foals would whinny for the first time and all the horses in the barn would respond,” shared one person.

“I love the ‘mare music,’” praised one commenter.

Why Do Horses Nicker?

If you’ve ever been near a horse before, especially a mare, you might have heard them making these low strange sounds. Why do horses nicker?

There are lots of reasons why horses make these sounds. The tone of the sound can really indicate its meaning. Sometimes it’s a way for a horse to acknowledge their morning meal. They’ll also nicker to their foals if they’re worried and want their baby by their side. A stallion or gelding might nicker as part of courting behavior too.

In this case, mama was definitely saying sweet things to her little bub. How cute!
