HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Green held its 18th annual Earth Day celebration at Hays Nature Preserve on Saturday.
The free event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to educate people about sustainability, and the importance of keeping the Earth clean.
“We need to remember where we came from, and we need to make the Earth a better place than it was when we were here,” Director Landscape Management & Green Team Brian Walker said. “So it’s our job as environmentalists to promote to the society around us that we need to take care of things like keeping litter off the streets and recycling our plastic bottles.”
The event featured a variety of activities for festivalgoers, such as Rise Raptor demonstrations, the Bat show by Vicky the Bat Lady and the Science for Everyone show by The Science Machine.
This year, the event had 22 environmentally conscious vendors that promoted sustainability throughout the city. Many of the vendors such as the North Alabama Zoological Society had interactive elements for people to enjoy.
“Earth Day is a celebration of the Earth and trying to get it back to its original form, and we as the public are the ones that do the most damage to it, but we’re also the fix to the problem, so we can also make things better for the future for our kids and our grandkids,” Walker said.
