The Pitt Season 1 just came to an end on MAX last night and we already can’t wait for Season 2. We need more Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), more Dr. Melissa King (Taylor Dearden), more of Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Santos (Isa Briones) being new roomies! More, more, more!!!
However, given the fact that The Pitt is a MAX original — and streaming shows are notoriously slow when it comes to coming back — will we have a long wait for Season 2? Will Dr. Robby and his colleagues be back sooner than we might think? Or are we in for a super long hiatus in between the first two seasons of The Pitt?
From The Pitt Season 2’s festive setting to its confirmed episode count, here’s everything we know so far about the second season of The Pitt…
Will There Be a Second Season of The Pitt?
Yes! MAX announced all the way back on February 14 that The Pitt had been renewed for Season 2.
When Will The Pitt Season 2 Come Out on MAX?
The Pitt star and executive producer Noah Wyle seemingly confirmed in a recent Variety profile that The Pitt Season 2 will come out January 2026, exactly one year after Season 1 debuted.
The plan is for a new season of The Pitt to drop every year.
How Many Episodes are in The Pitt Season 2?
There will be fifteen episodes in The Pitt Season 2, per the request of HBO and MAX programming chief Casey Bloys.
Bloys recently explained to Vulture’s Joe Adalian why he wanted fifteen episodes, and not twelve, or even twenty-two: “Doing just 12 episodes felt like an extension of a streaming show,” Bloys said. “The idea here was to really go for it. I didn’t think 22 was realistic right off the bat. Fifteen felt like more than you would typically get, but something where John and the team would be able to do something creatively that they felt really good about.”
When Will The Pitt Season 2 Take Place? The Pitt Season 2 Fourth of July Setting:
Last weekend, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill revealed that The Pitt Season 2 will take place ten months after Season 1, during a hectic Fourth of July weekend shift in the ED.
When DECIDER spoke with Gemmill this week, he explained how he arrived at that specific date.
“We have to shoot in September, generally, just because of our schedule and weather,” Gemmill said, referring to the time of year the otherwise LA-based production gets to shoot on location scenes in Pittsburgh. “So whatever we shoot in September, we have sort of match to. So that basically limits us to, I would say, from May to November, October.”
Gemmill said since Season 1 was set in the fall, they wanted to embrace the chaos of summer.
“There’s more things happening in the summertime in terms of, I think, hospital visits,” he said. “Fourth of July, you got fireworks, you’ve got a hot dog eating contest gone bad. You’ve got people getting sunburned, and drinking too much, and sunstroke.”
(Why do we think Whitaker’s going to be saddled with that hot dog eating contest gone wrong?)
