Universal Studios is expanding its theme park and resorts locations with a new one set to arrive in the U.K.. This would mark Universal’s first theme park project in the United Kingdom.

The newest Universal Studio UK is slated to open in 2031 and will be located south of Bedford, England. Taking over a 476-acre parcel of land that Comcast purchased in 2024, the project will feature the studio’s “distinct style of immersive and thrilling rides” along with several themed lands, accommodations, dining areas, retail spaces and an entertainment complex. The hotel is expected to have 500 rooms. President of Comcast Corporation Mike Cavanagh said in a statement, “This is a special and historic milestone moment for our company as we continue to accelerate the growth trajectory of our theme parks business and delight audiences around the world. The unparalleled storytelling and technological innovation that the incredible team at Universal Destinations & Experiences brings to life is a perfect complement to the British creative arts and tourism industries.”

While the plans have yet to be approved, a proposal will be submitted to the U.K. government in the coming months. If all goes well, Universal plans to begin construction in 2026. Mark Woodbury, Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences said, “Bringing the Universal brand to the United Kingdom is another exciting step forward in generating future growth. Expanding into Europe presents us with a significant opportunity to reach new fans and share the incredible experiences our team creates.”

Stay tuned for more information.
