There’s one person Alyssa Farah Griffin would like to hear from amid President Donald Trump‘s tariffs and the “economic chaos” that has unfolded, and that’s Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Trump’s tariffs continued to be a Hot Topic on this morning’s episode of The View, during which Griffin reminded her co-hosts that the crashing market is not only affecting low-income and middle-class families.
“The poor and the rich alike are losing money. Elon Musk might’ve lost more money than anyone else on the planet,” Griffin said. The Tesla CEO lost over $30 billion after Trump announced his tariffs, per CNBC.
Griffin, who worked for the Trump administration during the president’s first term, then blasted his top trade adviser, Peter Navarro, for being the “driving force” behind the tariffs.
“I am in no way surprised that global markets are in a free fall because he is the driving force behind these tariffs. This is a person that we would actively try to keep away from President Trump,” she said, noting that Navarro’s “old-school” mentality believes “we can be a purely protectionist nation that does no foreign trade with any other nation on earth.”
“That does not work in an interconnected global economy,” she added.
According to Griffin, “people from all over Trump’s orbit” are coming out against Navarro. Even Musk slammed him as a “moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks,” per NBC News.
While it’s clear Musk is no fan of Navarro, Griffin wanted to know where he stood on Trump’s tariff policies.
“Elon Musk, who I don’t agree with on much of anything, I don’t know why he’s overseeing DOGE, I’d actually love to hear from him on tariffs,” Griffin said. “He has experience running a business, he employs 100,000 people in this country, he understands supply chains. This would be a good time for him to chime in.”
Your move, Elon.
