NEW YORK (PIX11) – A man is recovering after being stabbed in the head multiple times in midtown.
Right now, investigators believe this was a random attack and robbery- that the victim and suspect do not know each other.
The vicious attack took place at the corner of 32nd Street and Fifth Avenue around 1230 this afternoon.
That’s when police said an unidentified man approached a 33-year-old male victim and pushed him to the ground.
It’s believed he stabbed the victim multiple times in the head and forcibly removed money from the victim’s pants pocket before running off.
We spoke to multiple people who work in the area.
They’re not surprised by what happened.
“It’s dangerous you got homeless. Every corner with pipes, if you tell them anything they’re angry. They get angry,” Nelson Rivera said.
Another man says, “Not surprised, unfortunately. Too soft on crime and people with mental health issues and violent offenders and repeat offenders need to be removed from the streets.”
Jocelyn Ratzer said, “Be around other people. Be aware of your surroundings. It happens everywhere.”
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital- he is stable.
Police are now looking for the suspect; there have been no arrests.
