Lauren Graham has an exciting idea for another Gilmore Girls reboot.
On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, host Drew Barrymore asked the actress if she would be open to reprising her role as Lorelai Gilmore.
“It’s funny, isn’t it? Yes. I always say yes because it’s my favorite character,” Graham said.
The star played Lorelai, the rebellious and quick-witted mother of Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and daughter of Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop), through all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, which aired from 2000 to 2007. According to Graham, she couldn’t have been happier when the cast reunited in 2016 for a four-episode miniseries called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
“For me to go back, I was on a cloud. It was pure joy,” Graham said, referring to the 2016 reboot.
Like the rest of us, Graham was hopeful that that wasn’t her last visit to Stars Hollow. The Parenthood star revealed that she recently told the show’s creator Amy Sherman-Palladino about an idea for a second Gilmore Girls reboot that she’s been sitting on for a while.
“To me, something that I love that they do in England more than they do here is like you have a season of a show that you’ve loved — Downton Abbey was one for me — and then they do like A Downton Abbey Christmas,” Graham explained.
She continued, “You get to visit your characters but it’s not like a whole reboot of the whole thing. So that is my idea that has been sanctioned by no one.”
Barrymore excitedly told Graham that “everyone would be there” for a potential Gilmore Girls Christmas special.
We couldn’t agree more!
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
