If you’ve ever snorkeled in the ocean, you’ve likely been amazed by the stunning sea life—vibrant fish weaving through unique plants in a hidden realm waiting to be explored. It turns out our dogs share a fascination with this underwater world.

At least that’s true for Fabbe, a Goldendoodle who might one day capture a Guinness World Record for his incredible breath-holding and diving abilities. This adventurous pup can explore the ocean floor like a furry submarine, and his epic underwater journey will leave you breathless!

Check out his amazing swimming skills in this video shared on April 1st:

This is truly impressive! While there may not be a category for the longest underwater dive by a dog, Fabbe might win the world record if there was! But he isn’t doing it for the glory. This Goldendoodle (@fabulous_doodle) is simply having the time of his life exploring the sights and smells of the ocean floor.

His parents explained dogs can smell underwater through two openings in their skulls, which allow them to take in scents without inhaling water. With his mouth open, Fabbe can sniff out seashells and even bones that they’ve hidden for him. It’s a unique scent work exercise, and this good boy is all in!

How Far Can Dogs Smell Underwater?

Although dogs may not have the same ability to smell underwater as on dry land, Geo Sniffing reports they can still detect odors at depths of 10 to 15 feet. Search and rescue dogs are trained to identify human remains for underwater recovery missions, while others are trained to detect odors from explosives, vehicles, and weapons. Additionally, some dogs are used to locate archaeological artifacts, drugs, pollutants, and certain aquatic species.

People were blown away by this ocean explorer! Viewer @imicyy responded, “Wow, I never knew this! Reason one million and on why I love dogs.” They give us so many reasons!

Viewer @kimykimyglasgow remarked, “No way! I always thought smell involved breathing. Love this.” It’s another fascinating fact about our four-legged friends!
