A brute bashed a Bronx MTA conductor in the face with a metal scooter in an early Tuesday melee that ended with a second employee hurt as he tried to stop the attacker, cops and sources said.
The male suspect, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was still on board the No. 5 train just after midnight as the 46-year-old operator tried to clear it at the last stop, Eastchester-Dyre Avenue, according to authorities and sources.
The lingering rider then flew into a rage, throwing his stand-up scooter at a 37-year-old conductor who was also at the scene, police said.
The operator then stepped in and sprained his thumb in an attempt to grab the attacker’s arm, sources said.
The crazed suspect then ran off on the subway tracks, through a tunnel toward the next stop, Baychester Avenue, sources said.
Both workers were taken to Mount Vernon Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, police said.
The assailant, last seen wearing a gray hoodie and black pants, had not been caught by Wednesday.
