LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder after a shooting took place in Danville on Tuesday.
According to authorities, deputies responded to the home for a shots fired call where Palmer was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.
After deputies secured the area , two people were detained at the scene. One of the the individuals, Dustin Joel Baker,32, of Danville, admitted to authorities that he was the shooter.
LCSO told News 19 that Baker said that he acted in self-defense and mentioned that he had called 911 after the shooting happened.
Both Baker and the second individual were transported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. After further investigation, the collection of evidence, and witness testimonies, Baker was charged with murder.
No bond has been set for Baker at this time.
According to Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood, Palmer went to the home where an altercation took place between him and Baker. LCSO said that they believe Palmer was trying to leave the area when he was shot in the front yard near his vehicle.
The Moulton Police Department, the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, and the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office all assisted in the investigation.
