For COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT‘s latest ASICS collaboration, the Japanese label swings away from the quiet sensibilities of recent releases for a wild variant of the ASICS Gel-Lyte III 07 covered in converging tartan patterns. Originally teased in the brand’s SS25 Paris Fashion Week runway show, the haphazard patterns mirror the patchworked and overprinted checks featured in the collection.
As where CDG opted for monochromatic treatments for the GEL-TERRAIN and GEL-NUNOBIKI in 2024, the Rei Kawakubo-founded label returns to a more expressive reprisal of the GEL-LYTE III 07, which it previously reimagined in 2020. While honoring the original silhouette, the GEL-LYTE III 07 features uppers made in complete technicolor tartan, oriented in different directions for a patchwork effect. An overprint application continues the same tartan onto the midsoles, bringing the loud print to maximum effect.
White text graphics include a discreet COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT wordmark on the midsole, a GEL-LYTE III 07 call-out on the lateral panel, and the ASICS word mark at the heel tab. For a final contrasting element, CDG finishes the design with white laces. The sneakers are offered in two colorways, boasting traditional menswear hues in one, and the other featuring pastel shades of pink, purple, and aqua.
The COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT x ASICS GEL-LYTE III 07 is out now at select European stockists. As of the time of writing, an official US release date has not been announced.
