LPGA star Charley Hull just gave the golf world a reason to look beyond Augusta National Golf Club during The Masters week. Starting Tuesday, fans will have the opportunity to get a much closer and more personal look at Hull’s life and career through Passes.
This is a very serious move by Hull in her approach to her online presence. Hull currently has more than 738,000 followers on Instagram, where she is particularly active, and more than 94,000 on X. Virtually all of the content she generates on META’s platform goes viral in a matter of hours.
So it should come as no surprise that when the opportunity arose to talk to her about it, we were first in line to get the exclusive.
“Joining Passes is a whole new adventure for me where I can share a more personal, behind-the-scenes look into my life,” Hull told Newsweek about why she decided to join the platform. “I want the golf world to be more accessible to everyone, and the online golf content community is really taking off!
“It’s the perfect time to join a platform like Passes where I can provide this level of access by leveraging their amazing tech features to connect with subscribers.”
Passes is a monetization platform that empowers creators to become entrepreneurs and grow their personal brands. Most importantly, it gives them unique tools to connect with their fans on a deeper level.
“They’ll get a real insight into my day to day life,” Hull promised. “I’m keen to know what my fans want to see and will be listening to that, but I’m already planning live chats and some fun giveaways!”
A hardcore golf and Hull fan like myself has probably seen this new adventure as a hindrance to her preparation for tournaments, especially now that the major championships are approaching.
The 29-year-old English star has made a solid start to the current season, a trend that everyone in the golf world would like to see her maintain.
But Hull is not worried about that at all.
“I’ll just bring Passes along with me and don’t envisage it being too distracting,” she said. “I have a good friend, Anouska, helping me and she’ll be behind the camera from time to time to make sure every moment is captured for my subscribers.”
In fact, the two-time LPGA Tour winner confirmed that she is already preparing for the major championships. The first of those (the Chevron Championship) is practically around the corner, as it will be played April 24-28 at its usual venue, The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas.
“Putting is really key in those big events so I’ll be working hard on that. It can be tricky as the greens at home in the UK can be a little slower, but I have a putting green at home which is very convenient,” she said.
With all that and more to make the interview a success, one of the latest demonstrations of why Charley Hull is a media phenomenon in professional golf came to mind.
“How’s the quit smoking going?” I asked, hesitating whether or not to bring up her already famous bet on the subject.
But she did it anyway.
“So far so good! I’ve got a good reason to stay off them as I had a bet with a friend of mine and don’t want to lose the $12.5k!”
