Prime Video may have found the lead of another female-led series adaptation of a classic MGM movie title. Summer H. Howell (Hunter Hunter) is in negotiations to play the title role in Carrie, the streamer’s upcoming supernatural horror drama series from horror master Mike Flanagan based on Stephen King’s novel, Deadline has confirmed. If the talks lead to a deal, it will make the young actress’ first TV series.

Carrie is described as a reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

Flanagan is writer-director. He executive produces with Trevor Macy. Filming is expected to begin in May in Vancouver.

In the 1976 Brian De Palma movie, Carrie was portrayed by Sissy Spacek who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance. In the 2013 remake, the role was played by Chloë Grace Moretz

Howell started her acting career at the age of 8 with a role in another horror classic title, Curse of Chucky. Her credits also include the films Clouds and Hunter Hunter.

Prime Video also recently cast newcomer Lexi Minetree as Elle in its Legally Blonde prequel series and has been negotiating with Sophie Turner for the lead in Tomb Raider.

Howell‘s Carrie negotiations were first reported by Variety.
