Authorities are investigating a string of burglaries at a strip mall in Boyle Heights that occurred early Monday morning.
According to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson, officers responded to the 3400 block of Whittier Boulevard around 5:12 a.m. on a burglary call.
The officers, who believe there are multiple suspects involved, were unable to locate anyone when they arrived at the scene. Several officers and patrol vehicles remained in the strip mall parking lot for over an hour searching for evidence and conducting their investigation.
While the spokesperson was unable to provide many more details, the front doors of three of the businesses – a Little Caesars, a Subway and BobaNJoy – were smashed in; the door to the Little Caesars was boarded up by 8:30 a.m.
Other establishments in the strip mall, including a Wingstop, were left alone.
A contractor, Zach Logston, was doing work at the Wingstop when the break-ins occurred and stated it happened right under his nose and left him a bit shaken.
“I was in there working…and the delivery driver came in and told me ‘Somebody is breaking into three businesses next door,’ and I went out and looked, and there wasn’t even anyone there,” he said. “It’s crazy what can happen and you not even know about it…It’s happening right under your nose.”
“It’ll rattle your bones a little bit, you know…I’m glad it didn’t happen to me, because I don’t know what I would have done,” he continued.
Employees at the Subway told KTLA that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. What, if anything, was taken from the other two businesses that were hit is not known.
At least three suspects may have been involved in the incident, police say; however, descriptions were not immediately available.
