MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — Strong storms tore through a trailer park in Muscle Shoals Saturday night causing significant damage.
The storm’s destruction left many people like Luis Trejo terrified. He was in his family’s trailer when four trees fell on it and nearly killed his father.
“I hear my sister screaming, crying, my mom is saying my dad died that like he just got crushed by the tree,” Trejo said. “It was terrifying to hear that, it was really terrifying I did not want to lose my dad that night.”
As help came to the rescue, it still wasn’t clear if Trejo’s father was alive.
“A volunteer I think he came in and he went up there, I said is my dad alright he says ‘I don’t want to be too dishonest with you but it doesn’t look too good,’” Trejo said. “My heart man I couldn’t take it no more. I had to take up for my dad right and I had to be a man and try to help my family through this tough time.”
Luckily after being dug from the rubble, Trejo’s father was not seriously injured. He was checked out by a doctor and only had minor scratches.
With much of his family’s home destroyed, Trejo is feeling lost.
“I can’t even salvage anything. The only thing I could really find is just like my chargers or whatever, my cat is missing,” Trejo said. “It’s a lot of things running around my mind, I just can’t really comprehend the mess this is.”
Trejo, like many living in the trailer park, doesn’t know where to go or how to begin to deal with the damage.
“We can’t do anything until they end up taking care of these trees. I just feel like there isn’t enough action being done right now. I mean we have neighbors over cutting up their trees so they don’t get anymore damage,” Trejo said. “Meanwhile us we can’t do anything just try to go in there and get our stuff out I don’t know.”
