These teams played an exciting contest on Friday, with the Red Sox winning 13-9. The Sox got things going early in the game, with Trevor Story hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. That was followed by a solo shot from Wilyer Abreu. When all was said and done, Boston led 5-0 after the first inning.
The Cardinals got on the board in the third inning with an RBI single from Lars Nootbaar, but Boston’s Carlos Narváez answered in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single as well.
St. Louis dug closer in the fourth with a three-run homer from Iván Herrera to make it 6-4, then one inning later Brendan Donovan hit a solo shot. It was mostly a series of RBI singles and fielders’ choices after that, with the Red Sox leading 13-6 heading into the ninth.
