A woman with no kids constantly received questions from guests in her home about why she keeps a bassinet in the bedroom, but her Instagram video hilariously revealed the truth: it’s for her fur baby.
Maddie Capozza owns a chipoo—chihuahua and poodle mix—named Atlas. The small dog used to always sleep on the bed with her, but she got fed up after constantly cleaning off his fur. Wanting to keep him close, she needed a solution.
Her March 4 Instagram video under the dog’s account @atlasthechipoo helped people “realize” the reason for her new bedroom setup. Instead of using a bassinet for a baby, she used it for her dog, placing it between her bed and the wall with a doggy bed inside it for added comfort. She purchased his own slumber palace, allowing him to be close to her but not letting her dog sleep on the bed with her and take all the room.
She showed Atlas sprawled out in his bassinet like he was in heaven. Although Capozza does not have a human child, Atlas happily accepted the part as her baby and enjoys his special bed.
Capozza told Newsweek via Instagram that she purchased the bassinet about two months ago. While still relatively new, Atlas instantly fell in love. He mostly sleeps throughout the night. She’ll even find him there when she returns home after being out.
“I got it for a few reasons, one of the biggest ones being the maintenance of cleaning my bed,” she said. “He would sleep with me every night, so I would have to lint roll my bed every morning, and wash my sheets once a week to keep everything clean.”
Plus, a few people she’s dated in the past weren’t too thrilled about the dog sleeping in the bed, but she laughed and said those relationships did not last long.
Even though Capozza and Atlas are now separated while they sleep, the cuddle sessions have not ended.
“He does do his routine cuddle session in the mornings, though in my bed once he sees I’m awake,” she said.
Viewers flocked to the video, obsessing over the owner’s brilliant idea, and as of Friday, the Instagram clip reached over 12.1 million views and 466,254 likes.
“This is precisely the correct way to dog mom,” commented one user.
Another added: “That’s so much better than giving up the bed space!! I love this idea because they are still close.”
Others didn’t understand what she meant when she said she didn’t have children: “What do you mean you don’t have a baby? I see a baby right there!!”
