HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The National Weather Service in Huntsville surveyed the damage in Colbert and Lauderdale counties Sunday following Saturday night’s storms. The survey teams found that the damage was associated with three separate EF-1 tornadoes.
An EF-1 tornado with maximum winds of 90 mph caused damage near the Sheffield area. This tornado developed from a supercell thunderstorm, a rotating storm, leading to structural damage and trees being uprooted.
A secondary tornado, originating from the same storm as the Sheffield tornado, was ranked an EF-1 with maximum winds of 105 mph. This tornado produced damage in both Tuscumbia and Muscle Shoals. This tornado tracked just south of the Sheffield tornado.
The third tornado occurred in Lauderdale County near the Aqua Vista Community. This EF-1 tornado had maximum winds of 95 mph, producing a damage path of just over nine miles. Several trees were uprooted or snapped along the path, and several homes off Bull Run Rd. were missing shingles and a large portion of a fence.
The NWS in Huntsville plans to survey more damage across North Alabama this week. Stick with the Weather Authority for the latest.
