PHOENIX — Henry Cejudo, a UFC fighter and former double-champion out of Phoenix, helped detain a man who crashed into a central Phoenix home on Friday night.
Phoenix police responded to a crash at a home near State Route 51 and Bethany Home Road around 8:15 p.m., according to ABC15.
A 22-year-old driver allegedly crashed his car into the home and tried to flee the scene before a confrontation with the homeowner took place. The 22-year-old allegedly punched the 65-year-old homeowner multiple times, and that’s when Cejudo said he was able to step in and help his neighbor.
Cejudo said in a pair of Instagram videos that the driver was going around 80 mph and crashed into the side of the house while the fighter happened to be across the street.
Cejudo said four individuals were inside the car and they initially struggled to exit the vehicle. He explained once the individuals exited the car, they tried to flee, and that’s when the 65-year-old neighbor tried to stop them and was assaulted by the 22-year-old.
“I had to go out there, picked (the suspect) up, dropped him, slapped him a little bit,” Cejudo said in one of the videos. “And then some of the neighbors took some ‘clocks’ at him.”
No one was injured as a result from the crash.
The 22-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including assault and DUI.
The investigation remains ongoing.
