HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A line of strong to severe storms is expected to move through the region Saturday night into Sunday along a cold front. This will lead to the threat of heavy rain and the potential of flooding for the area.
Ahead of the heavy rain expected for the area, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for all of North Alabama and Franklin, Lincoln, and Moore counties in Tennessee. The watch will be in effect through 7 pm Sunday.
The main line of storms is forecast to move through the area between 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.
With deep tropical moisture in place pockets of heavy rain is expected. Training storms or storms that move over a single location multiple times will support excessive rainfall as well. Rain totals of 2.50 to 3.50 inches is expected with isolated higher totals possible.
Where the heaviest rain falls flash flooding, ponding on roads, and flooding of low lying areas is expected. We will also see local creeks, rivers, and streams rise as well. Stick with the Weather Authority for the latest.
