Futureverse, a AI and metaverse technology company, has signed a memorandum of understanding to do an intellectual property deal with Web3 firm PIP Labs, the core contributor to Story.

This strategic partnership will focus on integrating Futureverse’s technology and extensive IP portfolio along with The Root Network to Story. Story, is a purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain designed to tokenize intellectual property into programmable digital assets, pioneering new ways for creators and brands to register, manage, and commercialize digital assets on-chain.

The Root Network is purpose-built to deliver on the promise of interoperability for IP assets wherever they are created, enhancing the value of owners and collectors.

Intellectual property has traditionally been managed through fragmented, centralized systems that limit the ability of IP holders and creators to fully control, license, and monetize their work. As digital content continues to expand, ensuring that IP ownership remains transparent, enforceable, and interoperable across multiple platforms is increasingly important. This partnership addresses these challenges by leveraging blockchain technology to create a decentralized, programmable framework for IP, fostering a more open and creator-centric digital economy.

Through this collaboration, Futureverse and PIP Labs, Story’s initial core contributor, will work together to onboard, grow, and monetize Futureverse’s extensive IP portfolio within Story’s blockchain ecosystem.

Futureverse, through Readyverse Studios, holds exclusive licenses for blockbuster IPs such as Ready Player One/Two. The partnership will also explore the integration of Story-powered applications into Futureverse’s The Readyverse platform, enhancing interoperability across metaverse experiences, games, and applications. As well as working to integrate Futureverse’s Pass platform into the Story network to make it simple to onboard millions of users with a few clicks.

“On-chain IP represents a transformative shift in how digital assets are owned, monetized, traded and evolved,” said Jason Zhao, chief protocol officer of PIP Labs, Story’s initial core contributor, in a statement. “By partnering with Futureverse, we are taking a major step toward building a more open and programmable ecosystem where creators and brands have greater control over their IP.”

Futureverse’s leadership in AI-driven metaverse technology is further validated by its $54 million Series A funding, backed by key investors such as Ripple, and 10T Holdings. Ernest Cline is a cofounder of Readyverse Studios, the celebrated author of the Ready Player One/Two series, which was adapted into a blockbuster film directed by Steven Spielberg. This strong foundation in both technology and storytelling uniquely positions Futureverse to lead the evolution of IP in the digital age.

As part of the agreement, Futureverse will collaborate with PIP Labs, Story’s initial core contributor, to identify IP assets suitable for registration on Story, integrate Story-powered applications into The Readyverse Launcher, and facilitate ecosystem collaborations.

This includes the integration of Story IP into Futureverse’s OP3N metaverse infrastructure and the use of IP characters generated by Sekai in Futureverse’s gaming environments. Additionally, Futureverse’s cutting-edge AI tools—including Jen (text-to-music generator), Altered State (3D generative AI tool), and the novel interoperability standard Universal Blueprint Framework (UBF) will be leveraged to create and enhance user-generated content in gaming and metaverse applications.

“We are excited about collaborating with Story to enhance the value of tokenized IP and create greater interoperability within the Web3 ecosystem,” said Aaron McDonald, CEO of Futureverse, in a statement. “Digital property rights are the core innovation of blockchain technology and by working together we can demonstrate that ownership is meaningful through enhanced interoperability.”

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the evolution of on-chain intellectual property, positioning Story and Futureverse at the forefront of the Web3 revolution.
