We’ve got major Beatles movies news! Director Sam Mendes is planning a multi-part biopic epic about the “legendary” group and its four members: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Reads the project’s logline, “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.” Mendes explained, per Variety, “We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house.”
The good news is that we’ve already got a good amount of information about the coming films. The bad news is that we’ll have to wait a while before we actually see the finished project.
So, without further ado, here is everything we know about Mendes’s Beatles movies.
Who is starring in the Beatles movies?
The Fab Four themselves have already been cast, and the only surprise is that they are not all British actors. Irish actors Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan will play McCartney and Starr, respectively, while Harris Dickinson of Babygirl fame will play Lennon and Mescal’s Gladiator costar Joseph Quinn has been cast as Harrison, per Entertainment Weekly.
As for the rest of the cast, however, we’ll just have to wait and see.
How many movies will there be?
According to Variety, there will be four movies in total, one for each of the four Beatles. Mendes explained at CinemaCon that he didn’t want to make a mini-series but, “the story was too huge to fit into a single movie.” He said, “Together, all four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history, explaining that the four movies will be, “a chance to understand them more deeply.”
When do the movies premiere?
Mendes has said that all four films will premiere in April of 2028, and that principle photography alone will take a year to film.
Is there a trailer?
We’re still a long way from a trailer, unfortunately, but check back in a year or two.
