Steve Kornacki has signed a new deal with NBC that will keep him working at the network in its news and sports divisions.

Kornacki, a popular presence on the network’s coverage of polling data and election results, will be winding down his role at MSNBC. The news network is being spun off from Comcast along with other cable channels, and Kornacki now will focus on a role with NBC News‘ Meet the Press and political coverage and NBC Sports.

Kornacki’s new title will be contributor and chief data analyst, NBC News and NBC Sports, a network spokesperson confirmed. The Los Angeles Times first reported on Kornacki’s new deal.

MSNBC is in the process of building up its own news division, with plans to hire more than 100 news journalists as it severs from Comcast.

Kornacki joined MSNBC in 2012, and became a national political correspondent at NBC News in 2017, maintaining roles at both networks. He drew widespread attention for his deep dive into data during the 2020 presidential election, as it took four days for networks to be able to project Joe Biden as the winner. People magazine named him one of the sexiest men that year.
