The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled approximately 224,100 Cra-Z-Art Gemex/Gel2Gem jewelry kits, including several Disney-branded products.
The recall, announced on March 27, affects 10 specific models and one refill pack manufactured by LaRose Industries that contain a potentially hazardous liquid resin. Four Disney-themed kits are among those recalled, featuring Minnie Mouse, Disney Princesses, Frozen, and The Little Mermaid characters.
Newsweek reached out to LaRose Industries via email on Monday for comment.
Why It Matters
The kits were sold at Target, Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx, and Joann stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon, Walmart, and Joann.com. All retailers are expected to remove any remaining inventory immediately.
Sold from January 2023 through September 2024, the popular craft kits contained a resin with hydroxyethylmethacrylate (“HEMA”) in amounts prohibited in children’s products by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.
The recalled products were purchased by thousands of families, potentially exposing children to a chemical that can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation or sensitization when inhaled, touched, or ingested.
What To Know
The recalled jewelry kits come in rectangular boxes labeled with the “Cra-Z-Art” brand name and either “Gemex” or “crazy gel2gem.”

The CPSC advises that already created jewelry should be inspected to confirm it is fully cured. If liquid or any liquid residue is present, the jewelry should not be worn and should be stored away from children. Once properly cured, the resin no longer presents a hazard. No injuries have been reported so far.
