BYD‘s luxury sub-brand Yangwang has officially launched its latest flagship sedan, the all-new U7, in China — and it’s turning heads with supercar-level performance at a surprisingly accessible price point. Starting at approximately $86,000 USD, the U7 delivers 1,287 hp and futuristic tech.

Powering the all-wheel-drive U7 is a quad-motor setup producing 1,239 lb-ft of torque. It claims a 0–62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and hits a top speed of 167 mph. The sedan’s 135.5-kWh battery offers up to 447 miles of range on China’s CLTC test cycle and supports ultra-fast 500 kW charging.

In terms of comfort or innovation, it features BYD’s new DiSus-Z suspension system, which uses linear actuators to ensure a smooth ride and can even stabilize the car if a tire blows. It also boasts rear-wheel steering and a comprehensive driver assistance system dubbed “God’s Eye,” offering Level 2 autonomous capabilities. Inside, the U7 is all luxury, featuring red Nappa leather upholstery, massage seats, foldout tables, a mini fridge and three main screens — including a 23.6-inch digital cluster. Rear passengers enjoy twin 12.8-inch displays and “temperature sensing” armrests.

For those not ready to go full EV, a plug-in hybrid version is also available. It retains the four motors and includes a 52.4-kWh battery paired with a compact, turbocharged flat-four engine, enabling a total range of 621 miles. At the time of writing, the vehicle is expected to be a China-exclusive model, with no plans for a global release mentioned.
