Here we go again! Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are having another go around the rumor mill after Sweeney’s alleged split from fiancé Jonathan Davino.
If this sounds at all familiar, it’s because the Anyone But You costars were at the center of cheating rumors back in summer of 2023 due to a lethal combination of off-screen chemistry, a mysterious breakup, and your standard dose of misogyny. Of course, the dynamic duo had no problem leaning into the narrative to sell tickets to their rom-com, which was loosely based on Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”
Speculation about the nature of their relationship continued through spring 2024 before dying down as both actors promoted other projects. However, nearly a full year after Sweeney and Powell joked about the drama on Saturday Night Live, their names are back-to-back in headlines once again.

March 30, 2025: Deuxmoi shares new photos of Sweeney and Powell on Instagram, alongside blind-item reports that former costars are in Dallas for his sister’s wedding. People reports that Powell’s sister Leslie worked on Anyone But You, while sources tell Deuxmoi that Sweeney was personally invited by the bride and groom, who also reportedly worked on the project.
Fans, of course, are being very normal about this. “EVERYONE REMAIN CALM (I’m not calm),” one fan commented on Deuxmoi’s Instagram, while another wrote, “It’s giving call me when you break up,” referencing the new Selena Gomez song.
March 26, 2025: A source tells Us Weekly that Sweeney and Davino aren’t “fully split” but have called off their wedding. “Things are not great right now, but they aren’t throwing in the towel yet,” the source says.
March 25, 2025: “Only up from here,” Sweeney captions a series of girls’ trip photos amid recent breakup rumors.
March 24, 2025: According to People, Sweeney deletes a photo of her New Year’s Eve kiss with fiancé Jonathan Davino from a months-old Instagram carousel. The removal was originally reported the celebrity gossip page, Deuxmoi.
A source later tells People that Sweeney and Davino’s relationship has been “rocky for a long time.”
October 3, 2024: Powell describes Sweeney as “a total renaissance woman” for her Glamour Woman of the Year profile. “I’ve never met someone who has an aptitude for so much. But the thing that really makes her a movie star, or a Glamour Woman of the Year, is that she’s able to effortlessly move through this world and be convincing in all these different things but also maintain her humanity. I think people feel that onscreen. Everybody knows she’s talented and magnetic and beautiful, and all those things, but I think her heart’s going to be what takes her the distance.”
Later in the profile, he continues, “As a friend, she’s so thoughtful…Sometimes, the perception of people when they’re incredibly ambitious or business-minded can be that they neglect other things in their life. There’s no question the Anyone But You star has already “made it.” It’s what comes next that will make her a Hollywood legend. As she puts it, “I’ve barely scratched the surface of what I’d like to do in my life.”
April 23, 2024: Sweeney and Powell say their off-screen antics played out exactly as intended. “The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell tells the New York Times. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit—and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
Sweeney, an executive producer on the project, was particularly involved in the marketing strategy. “I was on every call. I was in text group chats. I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas,” she says. “I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film, because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”
In fact, Sweeney revealed she pushed Sony to release that TikTok video of the pair whispering “ASMR pickup lines.”

December 19, 2023: In an interview with Glamour UK, Sweeney says the tabloid drama has been “really hard on Glen, which made me sad.” She continues, “because [otherwise] it was such a beautiful experience for the both of us. I care for him so much.”
She also opened up about her partner of six years, Jonathan Davino. “I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age,” she says, noting that Davino is also her producing partner.
She continues, “It’s really great to work with someone who knows you so well, who fully supports your ideas, your vision and your voice…And it’s nice. I mean, who doesn’t want to be with their best friend all the time?”
December 11, 2023: Sweeney and Powell attend the New York premiere of Anyone But You.
December 7, 2023: Powell says it’s “very easy to pretend to fall in love” with Sweeney.
“I mean, immediately, it was like we’d known each other forever, and I think anybody that’s been on the set realizes I never get tired of talking to Sydney,” Powell tells Entertainment Tonight. “We make each other laugh. She’s awesome, obviously one of the most talented actresses we have. This movie has felt like a rom-com in itself because Sydney is very easy to pretend fall in love with.”
He continued, “The wild part about being in a rom-com, all the ideas of love are swirling through your head while these big romantic moments are happening. So, sometimes [it’s] harder to differentiate between real life and fake life.”
