The Astros took Game 1 of this series on Thursday, winning 3-1. Framber Valdez pitched seven innings for Houston, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four. Catcher Yainer Diaz and centerfielder Jake Meyers had RBIs in the game. Meyers was Houston’s only player with multiple hits. New York’s lone run was in the ninth inning, off a hit from Francisco Lindor.
The Mets took Game 2 by the same 3-1 total. Juan Soto had a solo home run for New York, while third baseman Mark Vientos and DH Jesse Winker had RBIs as well. Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill went five innings, allowing three hits and a run with six strikeouts. Yordan Alvarez had Houston’s only RBI.
In Game 3, the Mets will send Griffin Canning to the mound. He had a 6-13 record last season with a 5.19 ERA. Houston’s Spencer Arrighetti will oppose him after going 7-13 in 2024 with a 4.53 ERA. He tied for the AL rookie lead in strikeouts last season.
