An adult and two children were killed, and six other people were taken to hospitals, after two cars collided in southern Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, the police said.
The ages and identities of the victims have not yet been released by the authorities, but the police confirmed that a total of nine people, five of them children, were taken to nearby hospitals.
According to initial reports from the authorities, the accident occurred just after 1 p.m. on Saturday when a Toyota Camry carrying two adults and two children collided with an Audi at the intersection of Quentin Road and Ocean Parkway, at the border of the Gravesend and Midwood neighborhoods.
Emergency medical workers arrived shortly after the crash and transported the driver of the Audi, its sole passenger, to a hospital in the Sunset Park area. The workers took the driver of the Toyota to a hospital on Coney Island and the vehicle’s other passengers to another nearby hospital. All of the passengers were in stable condition on Saturday afternoon.
It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.
During the collision, however, the cars struck three children and one adult who were walking in the area, a law enforcement official said. The pedestrians were transported by emergency medical workers to Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park, where the adult and two of the children were pronounced dead, the official said.
The third child in the group was in critical condition at the hospital on Saturday afternoon, the official said.
