The Cleveland Browns have a weak roster with plenty of needs heading into the NFL draft. Their overall goal is to add top-tier talent, but the biggest need they have is at the quarterback position.
In the latest NFL mock draft from Eric Edholm of NFL.com, he has the Browns getting the best of both worlds by managing to select both top overall prospect Abdul Carter and top quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders.

To pull that off, the team sticks at second overall and takes Carter, arguably the top overall prospect in the draft, which wouldn’t be too shocking. However, the team also trades up with the Atlanta Falcons at the number 15 pick, where they select Sanders to be their starting quarterback.
The projected trade package is No. 33 overall, No. 67 overall, No. 104 overall for the No. 15 pick.
This would be an insane trade, especially with an 18-pick jump, but would obviously make sense for the Browns in this scenario. They would be jumping ahead of their division rival Steelers, who would likely take Sanders if he was available at 21.
Sanders seems like a great fit for head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offensive scheme, so it seems more realistic for the Browns to take Sanders with the second overall pick. It would also be realistic for the Giants to select Sanders third overall.
Even if this seems unrealistic, a potentially crazy draft could take place if Sanders were to fall past the top three.
If the young QB out of Colorado really isn’t viewed as a top quarterback talent, the teams that need a quarterback would feel this type of plan would be ideal. Take one of Carter or Travis Hunter, and then trade back up in the first round to select Sanders.
That seems like wishful thinking on paper, however, as while first-round trades happen often, they don’t usually involve a team going from the top half of the first round to the second round.
Overall, this mock draft has a lot of fun ideas that could potentially happen, but realistically the draft wouldn’t be this entertaining. Falcons fans also likely would be upset with this move, as there are plenty of interesting prospects available at 15 for them to take.
They would likely rather take a top defensive talent or even one of the two top receivers still available at 15 in this mock, such as Tetairoa McMillan or Matthew Golden.
