As the Donald Trump administration’s Signal group chat drama continues, so does Jimmy Kimmel‘s endless ribbing.
The late night host continued roasting Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz on Live after they were caught sharing attack plans in a Signal group chat that also included Vice President J.D. Vance … and a journalist from The Atlantic.
Kimmel pointed to Hegseth’s past television career, noting his appointment to the Department of Defense is like “suddenly having to take orders from Kathie Lee [Gifford].”
He then laughed at the fact that Hegseth and the Trump administration have continuously denied they were sharing “war plans” on Signal, but rather “attack plans.” When The Atlantic wrote about the “attack plans Trump advisers shared on Signal,” Trump’s White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took it as a “victory,” as Kimmel put it.
“The Atlantic has conceded: these were NOT ‘war plans.’ This entire story was another hoax written by a Trump-hater who is well-known for his sensationalist spin,” she wrote on X.
“At this point, theyâre just screwing with us right?” Kimmel asked the Live audience, before adding, “Thank God we got rid of DEI, now you can rest assured that the idiots in charge were not chosen for their race or gender. They were chosen purely based on being idiots.”
Kimmel previously wondered on the show why President Trump has yet to fire any of the advisers involved in the group chat, considering how much Trump used to enjoy firing people on The Apprentice before he came POTUS.
âFiring used to be his favorite thing! Itâs kind of sad, heâs like an old dog who doesnât chase the ball anymore,â Kimmel joked.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
