Jimmy Kimmel did not miss his opportunity to rip the “confederacy of dunces” running Trump’s administration on Live amidst the recent bombshell report that Sec. of Defense Pete Hegseth, Vice President J.D. Vance, and a number of other officials were sharing war plans in a Signal group chat that included a civilian journalist.

“This week, in the race between dumb and evil, dumb is in the lead,” Kimmel announced during his opening monologue Tuesday (March 25) as he began criticizing Hegseth, Vance, and Marco Rubio for their involvement in the chat.

The late night host condemned Hegseth for attempting to deny that they were “texting war plans.”

“I don’t know why there’s any debate about this,” Kimmel said. “I mean we have the texts. We’ve seen them, the White House confirmed the texts were authentic and many of them are from Pete Hegseth, the same guy who said this about Hillary Clinton.”

He then queued up a clip of Hegseth quite succinctly calling for Clinton to be jailed for using a private email server during his time on Fox.

“If there was anyone other than Hillary Clinton they would be in jail right now for what has been done because the assumption is in the intelligence community, if you are using unclassified means there is the potential for and likelihood foreign governments are targeting those accounts and gathering intelligence from them,” Hegseth declared on the show.

For once, Kimmel agreed wholeheartedly. “Very well said,” he said. “Case closed.”

“I bet Hillary is walking around the woods laughing her ass off today,” he added. “Lock ’em up! Lock ’em up!”

Kimmel later wondered why President Trump has yet to fire any of the officials involved in the group chat, considering the scale of the leak and how much Trump reveled in firing people on The Apprentice before he came POTUS.

“Firing used to be his favorite thing! It’s kind of sad, he’s like an old dog who doesn’t chase the ball anymore,” Kimmel joked.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
