Insta360 is best known for making high-resolution video cameras, but it seems that its partnership with Leica has inspired it to try its hand at something slightly different — the brand has just launched the Xplorer Grip Kit and Ace Pro 2 Xplorer Bundle that feature a new accessory to transform its flagship Ace Pro 2 action camera into a handheld stills-style street camera. Sort of… like a Leica?
The Xplorer Grip Kit accessory pack features a newly designed camera cage for the Ace Pro 2 that serves as both an ergonomic grip and allows you to hold the 8K AI-powered action camera in the same way you’d hold a point-and-shoot. The bundle comes with a handful of other accessories that can be attached to the main Utility Frame, including a Cold Shoe Shutter Button that acts as an extended shutter button. Insta360 says its new bundle offer users a “modern look with a vintage feel” that turns its flagship action camera into a fully-fledged stills camera – or, “the ultimate tool for street photography and urban travel”.
It’s a cool piece of kit that breathes new life into the Ace Pro 2, which launched last November, creating new ways to use it and opening up new creative possibilities for owners of the camera. The accessory is also compatible with the original Ace Pro, since this shares very similar dimensions as its successor Ace Pro 2.
Insta360’s new Xplorer accessory is available now. It can be purchased individually in the Xplorer Grip Kit priced at $84.99 USD, or as part of the Ace Pro 2 Xplorer Bundle priced at $479.99 USD which includes an Ace Pro 2 camera.
