Labor Day weekend this year won’t be sleepy. Searchlight is jumping into the mix on Aug. 29 with their Jay Roach directed comedy The Roses starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Andy Samberg, Oscar winner Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow, and Kate McKinnon.
In the screenplay from 2x Oscar nominee Tony McNamara, life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites.
The Roses is inspired by the 1989 Danny DeVito directed, Michael Leeson scripted movie The War of the Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler.
Watch on Deadline
Producers on The Roses are Roach, Michelle Graham, Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, Ed Sinclair, and Tom Carver.
The Roses joins the redux of The Toxic Avenger starring Kevin Bacon, Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood and Jacob Tremblay as well as Sony’s Darren Aronofsky directed psychological crime thriller Caught Stealing starring Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz.
Don’t be shocked if we catch a trailer for Roses during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation next week.
