EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first-look at Tuppence Middleton in Blood Cruise, the SVT and CBS Studios horror-drama launching this week at Series Mania.
The pics we have for you today also include shots of Downton Abbey and Sense8 star Middleton and An Ordinary Family and The Last Kingdom actor and Björn Bengtsson, plus co-star Kolbjörn Skarsgård, and ensemble cast members Marika Lagercrantz, Orlando Wahlsteen and Lissa Edil.
Blood Cruise (aka The Cruise), made for Swedish pubcaster SVT, follows the story of a cruise ship whose passengers and crew have to unite to survive a terrifying evil that is unleashed on board.
It is based on Mats Strandberg’s novel and comes from Sweden’s Northern Fable and Imaginarium Productions, the UK-based production house lead by Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis, and is being made in association with Scandi pubcasters DR, NRK, RUV and YLE, with support from the Nordic Film & TV Fund. Paramount Global Content Distribution is shopping the series outside Sweden.

Strandberg and Malin LagerLöf are the writers, with Jonas Alexander Arnby is the director. Northern Fable’s Alexander Rönnberg and Imaginarium’s Will Tennant are the producers, with Jonathan Cavendish and Phil Robertson exec producing for Imaginarium, Sonja Hermele and Johanna Gårdare doing the same for SVT, and Lindsey Martin and Dave Clarke attached for CBS Studios.
Logline reads: “The Baltic Charisma promises a dream holiday cruise for all: families, friends, lovers – but this trip will quickly become a nightmare… In the middle of the night as the revelry on board peaks the passengers find themselves facing an ancient evil.
“Adrift in the frozen sea, there’s no way to call for help and nowhere to run. Can a disparate group of passengers come together to defeat the imminent threat? Who can they trust, and how far will they go to survive?”
The ensemble cast includes Middleton, Bengtsson, Jessica Grabowsky, Lagercrantz, Arvin Kananian, Thomas Hanzon, Scott Arthur and Christopher Wagelin.
A work in progress of the show was presented at the Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Vision sidebar, and it will be presented this morning at Lille’s Series Mania at the Sweden & Finland Showcase.
“From the very first moment I read the novel, Blood Cruise stood out as a unique blend of Scandinavian drama and spine-chilling horror,” said Northern Fable’s Rönnberg.
Imaginarium’s Tennant said the comprised “exceptional European talent,” while director Arnby added, “Working on Blood Cruise has been a spectacular challenge, blending the horror genre with an intense Scandinavian relationship drama.”
The Series Mania Forum begins today and runs through Thursday (March 27).
