Former Nickelodeon co-stars Drake Bell and Josh Peck finally reunited on Peck’s podcast Good Guys to discuss the shocking revelations raised in the Quiet on Set documentary series.
The series marked the first time Bell came forward as the victim of sexual assault. The child actor revealed in the documentary series that he had been sexually abused by Amanda Show dialogue coach Brian Peck (who has no relation to Josh) when he was 15 years old and participated in the investigation that led to his 2004 conviction.
Bell opened up to Josh about his time working on set when Brian was still a Nickelodeon employee.
“Where I felt most comfortable, where I was the happiest was when I was on set with you guys. And the worst part was every day I got there, the monster was there, you know?” he told Josh.
Josh told Bell that he “can’t even imagine” what he endured as a child actor after watching the Investigation Discovery documentary.
“I didn’t know any of this at 14, and in watching the documentary, at 38, as a father, as a grown-up, so much was revealed to me,” Josh said of the series.
Bell revealed to his former co-star that the investigation was already underway when they were filming the Drake & Josh pilot.
“I had to come back to working with my partner going, ‘I’ve got all this stuff that nobody knows about that’s going on. Is this going to hurt our show? When this drops, is Josh going to look at me and be like, Bro, you took our dream away. Are we going to lose our show?’” Bell wondered.
Though the actors confessed they had complicated feelings about their time at Nickelodeon, Bell maintained, “I’m very proud of what we did.”
The podcast appearance marks the first time the co-stars reunited since Quiet on Set premiered on Investigation Discovery. The former co-stars previously had a public falling out after Bell called him out for not inviting him to his wedding.
But Bell has since stated that he would be interested in collaborating with him again. “I would love to,” Bell said in an interview with The Patriot-News. “We’ve talked about it. But I also didn’t want to do it when everyone was doing the reboots.”
“If we’re going to do something, it should be more special,” he added at the time. “Let’s hit ’em with a bang instead of, ‘Oh, another reboot.’”
Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV is streaming now on Max.
