Eyes Never Wake is an indie horror game where in order to evade the monster, you have to hide from your webcam and be quiet. It’s by solo developer Allan Hedlund, who has spent the last seven months working on it.
The announcement trailer dropped on YouTube on March 12th and seems like the perfect game for fans of novel horror games and The Backrooms.
The single-player game requires you have your camera on to complete certain tasks, like scanning your face to enter a door — so no, you can’t just cover your webcam while playing. Plus, if you cover your webcam that’d ruin the whole point of the game anyway!
You move your character around using your keyboard, and as seen in the trailer, you explore eerie liminal spaces and pipe-lined hallways. Sometimes you might hear the monster coming and have plenty of time to duck. Other times it may be right next to you before you know it.
Interestingly, Hedlund also describes Eyes Never Wake as a “strange game never meant to be played,” perhaps hinting at the mysterious world in which it takes place. In the trailer, a ball glitches through a wall, as if the object is clipping, and the player steps through the wall into a new creepy area.
The novel premise of the game has already gained significant traction on social media despite it not having a release date yet. Because of the idea of ducking away from the webcam, it wouldn’t be surprising to see content creators jump on playing this game as soon as it’s released.
You can wishlist Eyes Never Wake on Steam.
