The Bachelor Season 29 finale featured a fair share of heartwarming moments between Grant Ellis and his final two women, but one contestant left the Dominican Republic with a broken heart: Litia Garr.
“Litia, I love you very much and I want to give you everything you deserve. But I’m not your person,” Grant told her on proposal day. “I’m sorry to have gotten to this point, but my emotional connection is stronger with someone else.”
When Grant said he hoped she didn’t view him any differently, Litia replied, “I do, come on now…It’s all about you. I think I got my answers. You’re different than I thought…I would have a lot of questions if I were [Juliana] from the things that you said to me. But that’s for you guys to work out. That’s none of my business.”
“The things that you’ve said to me all along the way make this decision that you’ve made so much more devastating for me,” Litia told Grant before saying goodbye. “For me, the switch-up is crazy. I’m disappointed. I just want to be so clear that I’m confused, and I’m sad, and I’m mad.”
After Bachelor Nation watched the devastating break-up play out on screen, franchise host Jesse Palmer welcomed Grant’s ex to the stage where she unpacked her post-finale emotions and reunited with the Season 29 lead again for the first time since finale week.
“It just reminds me how shocked I was, and how I really felt like I got the rug pulled out from under me,” Litia said when asked how she felt watching the breakup back. “Grant and I had talked a lot about that day, and everything that he had ever said about it was that it was going to be us. We were getting engaged from the first one-on-one in LA until the night before that day. I remember saying goodbye to him and saying, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re getting engaged tomorrow.’ And he said, ‘I know I can’t wait. I love you. I love you. I love you.’ And those were the last words that he said to me before I walked up there.”
When asked about watching the journey back, Litia said that watching the show air has given her a lot of context: “I think he made the right choice. I agree with his decision.”
As for why she felt Grant was different than she thought he was, Litia said, “On the first group date, I opened up to Grant and told him about my past experiences in dating, and told him how intentional I was being about this journey, specifically, at this point in my life. And he expressed that he was in the same position that he was looking for the same things. And we talked about timeline, the next week on the group day. So that wasn’t new information.”
She also said that Grant “continued to give reassurances and promises all along the way every week, and he didn’t choose to raise those serious questions until the end…it was not new information.”
Litia was so sure that her and Grant were getting engaged at the end of the journey that she said she had no idea that he was conflicted on proposal day. “Every conversation that I had with Grant, and he said it on that date, it wasn’t shown. He said, ‘I know it’s you. I could stop the whole show right now. It’s you. That’s how confident I feel.’ He said it to my mom on FaceTime and, those words have meaning to me,” she explained.
When Grant came out to the hot seat, Litia brought up those promises and reminded him that she asked him not to make them unless he was 100% sure. “Every week you continued to raise the stakes and you went out of bounds,” she said. “You told me I was your #1 connection…that from the first group date you told me I was your wife…you never let up up until the last night.”
She asked where and maturity and honesty he talked about all season went, and Grant took accountability for his misleading actions. “I did love you…you taught me a lot as a man. I think it’s a very difficult position that I’m in, and I just want to apologize for hurting you, hurting your feelings, and hurting the people that love you,” he said.
When asked if he regretted telling Litia that he loved her, Grant said no and assured her that he did love her, but he regretted speaking early in situations when he didn’t know how conflicted he would be. “I think I spoke too soon in a lot of situations and I’ll take responsibility for that, ” he explained.
“I’m excited for this to be the last time that I talk to you about this,” Litia said. “I know I deserve someone waking up without a shadow of a doubt who chooses me and I’m excited to find it.”
