In a second-round Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament matchup, one of the tournament favorites is in action, as the No. 1 seeded USC Trojans take on the No. 9 seed Mississippi State.

The top-seeded Trojans are fresh off a 71-25 throttling of UNC Greensboro in the first round. In what feels like a typo, USC held Greensboro to 3-for-36 (8.3%) from inside the arc for the game. Star guard JuJu Watkins led the team with 22 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, but has some lingering injury issues (wrist, ankle) that could affect her in the next round. Kiki Iriafen scored 13 points and secured 13 rebounds as the Trojans didn’t allow Greensboro to score more than nine points in any quarter.

Mississippi State comes in as a massive underdog, having posted just a 7-9 record in the SEC during the regular season. However, they did score a bit of an upset in the first round, defeating the No. 8-seeded California Bears 59-46. Junior forward Madina Okot continued her excellent season, scoring 14 points to go with 13 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in the win. The 6-foot-5 Okot led the SEC in field goal percentage during the regular season, shooting 65.1% from the field.

The winner of this game will face Kansas State in the Sweet Sixteen, as they defeated Kentucky 80-79 in their second-round matchup.
