Katie Thurston married her fiancé, Jeff Arcuri, just a few days before undergoing treatment for her recent stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis.
The “Bachelorette” alum, 34, and the comedian, 37, tied the knot Saturday during an intimate ceremony in their New York City backyard with only their parents in attendance.
Arcuri, who proposed to Thurston in August 2024, explained to Us Weekly that they purposely moved up their wedding so they could say “I do” before the former reality star undergoes chemotherapy and surgery.
“It was so sweet. Obviously, we were wanting to plan a wedding, and there’s a lot of emotions that come in with chemo and the impact and the health, and we don’t know what the next year looks like,” she told the magazine.
“And one night he said, ‘I want to show you that I still love you and that I’m here to stay. I’ll get married to you tomorrow.’ We flew our parents in from Michigan and Washington state. We got our marriage license, and a friend [married] us.”
Arcuri echoed Thurston’s sentiment by saying he felt “more power” supporting her in her treatment as her husband.
“I don’t want to be not with you for any of this,” the groom told his new bride.
The newlyweds celebrated their union with their parents later Saturday night at Da Andrea restaurant.
Thurston wore a long-sleeve white mock neck dress with a sheer skirt and white heels. She pulled her hair back in a simple loose bun and added small gold hoop earrings.
Meanwhile, Arcuri wore a tan suit with a white button-up shirt and brown dress shoes.
Thurston clarified that they plan to have a bigger wedding with more guests after she undergoes treatment.
“It was this kind gesture of him saying, truly, in sickness and in health,” she explained. “He is proving that he’s here to stay. He shows up every day, and he does it in ways that just continue to surprise.”
The couple chose to hold their ceremony on March 22 because it was the date Thurston first saw a video of Arcuri doing stand-up comedy in 2024 and sent it to her friends with the caption, “Future husband.”
“At the time, I didn’t realize, but I was manifesting my actual future husband, so when we were looking at dates, I was like, ‘Wait, it has to be March 22,’” she recalled.
Thurston announced in February that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I experienced a range of emotions over the past two weeks. Despair. Anger. Sadness. Denial. And then strength. Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot. I tried to even make a video instead of this post and couldn’t,” she wrote in an emotional Instagram post.
The former ABC personality gave a shout-out to Arcuri at the time for showing his “selfless love” that went “beyond anything [she] imagined [she would] be blessed with.”
Thurston has been dating in the public eye since competing for Matt James’ heart on Season 25 of “The Bachelor.” She later became the “Bachelorette” lead for Season 17 and was briefly engaged to Blake Moynes.
