The Dallas Mavericks have upgraded the injury status of star big man Anthony Davis ahead of their matchup with the Brooklyn Nets. Davis is now listed as doubtful rather than being ruled out entirely.

This could signal that Davis is getting ready to return to game action fairly soon. Since his game designation remains doubtful, the star center likely won’t be playing against Brooklyn.
But he could make his return this coming week, and it’s at the perfect time for the Mavericks. Dallas has floundered in recent weeks, in part due to inconsistent play, but they have also seen multiple injuries.

Star point guard Kyrie Irving suffered a season-ending injury, sending this team into the deep end. The Mavericks’ situation has gotten so bad that they almost had to forfeit games due to a lack of players.
Thankfully, it didn’t come to that but it’s been a tough time for Dallas. However, getting Davis back into the mix could change things for this team.
Dallas is battling for a postseason spot, likely in the Western Conference’s Play-In tournament. The Mavericks’ record is 34-37 for the year, and they are slotted in the No. 11 spot within the standings.
The Mavericks are behind the Phoenix Suns for the final Play-In spot but they hold the same record as Phoenix. They could be fighting down the stretch to get into the postseason so Davis returning could be huge in their chances.

Davis last played on Feb. 8 against the Houston Rockets, when he made his debut for the team. The big man suffered his injury during that game and was limited to just 31 minutes for Dallas.
But when he was on the court, Davis showed why the Mavericks traded for him. In that game, the star big man recorded 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks.
It remains to be seen when Davis will officially return to the court, but this is great news for the Mavericks as they try to make a late playoff push.
