The face of March Madness thus far has made quite a name for himself. McNeese student manager Amir “Aura” Khan exploded onto the scene and made himself big money in the process.
After hitting the big stage on Thursday when McNeese took on Clemson and upset them, Khan was all over the place. In the span of three days, Khan has a total of 12 NIL deals that total well over six figures.
CBS sports writer Matt Norlander shared via X prior to McNeese’s game on Saturday against Purdue.
McNeese manager Amir “Aura” Khan now has a customized Under Armour jumpsuit. Company reps flew into Providence last night. I’m told he has 12 NIL deals, all totaling well into the six figures. After Khan made a name for himself on Thursday, he showed up to Saturday’s game in a customized Under Armour jumpsuit. On the back of the jacket read, “Aura.”
Khan is one of many names to have left their mark on the tournament in the last decade. However, his journey does not stop at McNeese. Norlander also added that Khan will follow McNeese head coach Will Wade to NC State.
Khan will be a graduate assistant with the Wolfpack.
Khan told CBS Sports that the past few days have been a whirlwind.
“I haven’t fully thought about it, processed it,” Kahn told CBS Sports. “I think over the next few days, I’m definitely going to think about my future, but I definitely want to be a grad assistant for a college basketball team when I graduate.”
Wade signed a six-year deal with NC State. Details about the deal have yet to be released.
After McNeese’s loss to Purdue on Saturday, Wade had difficulty talking about the next phase of his coaching career.
“I’ll worry about that tomorrow. I’m an honest guy, but today I want to put a bow on everything with McNeese if we can,” said Wade.
“Not to try to give out a canned answer, but this is about our players and McNeese now. We’re not flying back until tomorrow morning. We’ll enjoy this here and when we get back, we’ll figure out next steps.”
While Wade was upset, he did add how he feels McNeese is set up fine for the future.
“Our program at McNeese is in great shape. We have tremendous leadership. We’re not dumb. We have a plan to keep this program rolling, whoever is at the helm, and this program is going to keep moving in the right direction,” he said.
“Most of the time you lose a tournament, fans are ready to fire you. Our people were applauding us.”
Khan will follow Wade, who coached McNeese for the past two seasons. In Wade’s tenure, he recorded a 50-9 record and helped the Cowboys to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.
