Scottie Scheffler, the World No. 1, recently revealed his Masters menu, but the real question is whether he’s ready to don his third Green Jacket at Augusta this year.
If you look at Scheffler’s results thus far in 2025, he has not played poorly. But it is hard to deny that he set a bar too high to match last year.
Scheffler has finished no worse than 25th in his five starts. Yet, he does not look the same, and not just the shots he is hitting.
Throughout last week’s PLAYERS Championship, Scheffler was seen frustrated about the gusty winds and his putting. During the third round, Scheffler’s frustration boiled over after putting on the 16th hole. “Can you explain it?” he asked media members, exasperated.
“How does the wind not move it at all that way? How does it all go up with the wind 30m/hr go up and go like this?” Scheffler added.
Well, this wasn’t the only instance of Scheffler’s annoyance affecting him.
During the second round, he was captured hitting his club against his bag at the 7th hole, a similar action that drew criticism during the WM Phoenix Open.
Interestingly, this did not go unnoticed by the golf world. Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley, an Australian professional golfer with 11 Major appearances, commented on Scheffler’s performance.
“He’s a little rusty,” Riley shared with Sky Sports Golf, adding that Scheffler’s game hasn’t been the same since his return from injury. “But I won’t hold that as any excuse for him,” Riley noted, emphasizing that Scheffler is expected to perform at a higher level.
Scheffler himself echoed similar sentiments.
“Regarding the frustration, yeah, for instance, the last two days I felt like I could have scored a lot better,” the World No. 1 reflected during The PLAYERS.
As he looks to bounce back from his disappointing performance, Scheffler will face stiff competition at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. The field in Houston is expected to be stacked, with Rory McIlroy even adding it to his schedule.
The question on everyone’s mind is – can Scheffler keep his calm and regain his prior form? Do you believe he will overcome his putting woes and regain that momentum? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
