In the South Region of the NCAA Tournament, No. 4 seed Texas A&M and No. 5 seed Michigan took care of business in the first round, escaping potential upsets and setting up this meeting to decide which advances to the Sweet 16.

Michigan defeated UC San Diego in a close one. The Wolverines won that game 68-65 behind a well-rounded offensive effort. Vladislav Goldin led the team in scoring with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds while Danny Wolf just missed out on a double-double, yanking down 11 boards while scoring nine points.
Texas A&M had a little easier time against Yale, winning 80-71. Pharrel Payne was the Aggies hero, coming off the bench to score a team-high 25 points and leading A&M with 10 rebounds as well.
